To the families of students assigned to Mrs. Haddad or Mr. Newton: June 2008 Dear Fifth/Sixth Grader and Family, We're sending home the list of supplies you'll need next year so that you can take advantage of the summer sales on school supplies. It is VERY important that students come prepared with supplies everyday. Learning time is lost when students aren’t ready to get to work. If possible, you may find it convenient to have a second set of supplies to keep at home.
An assignment notebook will be provided for all students at the beginning of the school year. STUDENTS MUST HAVE IT WITH THEM AT ALL TIMES. * A large supply of pencils * Highlighters (2 colors, please) * A few erasable pens * A box of colored pencils * Light weight 3 ring binder * Thin markers * A ruler with metric and inches * A compass - no sharp points * A protractor * A calculator - inexpensive scientific is best * A tablet of graph paper (white, 8½”x 11”, 4 squares per inch) * 4 different colored pocket folders - one for each subject o (Folders in a different color for each subject can be quickly located in the school bag, and often work better than more expensive trapper keepers, etc., especially for children who have to work hard at staying organized.) * 2 individual spiral notebooks for note-taking paper * Pair of scissors with name attached * Hand held pencil sharpener with shaving reservoir * Glue stick * Package of small post-its (2” squares) * Fine Point Black Sharpie * Inexpensive earphones (headset) for computer
The list of supplies will be posted on the HCS website. Please mark possessions, if possible, with your child's name.
Reading good books during the summer months is a great way to relax and enjoy. Our experience matches up with the research which shows that children who read during the summer gain valuable reading skills, while those who do not often slide backward. To help your child avoid this "summer slide", it's important to be sure kids make a habit of reading during their break from school.
Students: Please bring TWO of your summer reading books to school on the first day. Don’t forget to check the HCS website for updated school news http://www.qrsd.org/ We’re looking forward to seeing you in August. Have a great summer! Sincerely, Mrs. Haddad & Mr. Newton ____________________________________________________________________________ To the families of students assigned to Mrs. Chabot & Dr. Audette: June 2008 Dear Fifth/Sixth Grader and Family, We're looking forward to meeting and working with you to create a happy and productive school year. Keeping track of assignments is a must each day. We will be asking parents to sign their child’s agenda each night for the first couple of months and then on an as-needed basis, so parents can help their child budget his or her time.
It's very important to keep reading for enjoyment throughout the summer and to practice working on math problems. Research shows that children who read and practice their skills do better in the classroom.
