Incoming grade 3

June 2008
To the parents of grade 3 students in 2008-2009,
We welcome your children to our third grade classrooms with great anticipation for a productive year filled with educational activities and responsible growth.
You can provide support over the summer by involving your child in activities that will aid in fostering good study habits and a positive work ethic. One example of this would be to continue a habit of twenty (20) minutes of reading on a daily basis and/or to provide regular practice with math flash cards. Any appropriate reading level book would be acceptable. Our town librarian is a great resource to assist with summer reading selections. In the third grade, your child will read at least twenty (20) minutes nightly.
Supplies that your children should bring to school include: a very inexpensive, basic calculator a few glue sticks pencils, erasers and four ( 4 ) pocket folders three ( 3 ) notebooks, single subject, wide ruled (not college) one ( 1 ) assignment pad or a weekly calendar notebook for homework book bag colored pencils for correcting work All supplies should be labeled with your child’s name.
Some other supplies that we would appreciate for classroom use include: tissues sanitizing wipes for surfaces decorative computer printer paper (8½”x11”) for parent communications
Items that are also useful at home are a dictionary, clock or watch with analog face (round face with numbers and hands, not digital), and flash cards (+, -, x, /).
We are looking forward to providing your children with a wonderful third grade experience!

P.S. Please do not send extra supplies. These tend to disorganize and distract students…especially manual pencil sharpeners. Thanks for your help!
